EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY AT THE CYPRUS WINE MUSEUM

Organizing of school visits at the birthplace of the European Wine

The Cyprus Wine Museum is located in the village of Erimi, on the old motorway of Limassol-Paphos, 10 minutes away from the Limassol town centre. It is only a few minutes away from the historical Kolossi Castle, which is historically connected to the production of Commandaria and with which the students’ educational excursion can be combined with.

The Cyprus Wine Museum began its educational programs in 2005 during which the Ministry of Education and Culture of Cyprusevaluated it as an appropriate place for school visits.

Its educational activities have since addressed school groups of all classes and are performed in the Prehistoric, Ancient, Medieval, Byzantine and Modern Collection, while for high school students the Wine Routes at the St Hillarion Hall are also included.

The Museum’s program is also offered for students of Hospitality and Catering Schools where in cooperation and with the consent of the management of the school a sample course of wine tasting is given.

With a specially designed program and audiovisual, children from 3 to 18 years old get to know the 5500 thousand years wine culture of Cyprus from the birthplace of European Wine, Erimi. At the same time they learn about the culture of Cyprus, the importance of wine and vine in art and poetry while simultaneously they are initiated in the museum field.

The Museum Educator animates the exhibits, encouraging the children to observe, to think, to express themselves and to self-act. The teacher is advised to inform the Museum Educator on the preparation that has been made in the classroom for preschool and elementary children, so that the program is implemented based on the needs of the students.

The Cyprus Wine can also organize special educational tours that allow teachers to present on their own the museum to their group. Soon you will be able to borrow the relevant publications and other material that will help with the preparation in class.

The premises and the permanent exhibition of the Cyprus Wine Museum is also offered for visits of schools with students with special abilities. The museum premises are designed accordingly to the need of all students.
